Geofence
A geofence is a virtual perimeter drawn on a map around a place: a customer, a site, a point of sale. The system detects when someone enters or leaves it, and uses that to log visits without anyone having to declare them by hand.
Its most common use is verifying the visit: entry and exit are logged on their own, so duration and coverage stop depending on what gets reported. It also works the other way round, triggering tasks on arrival — opening the corresponding checklist, for example.
It is a feature worth explaining to the team before switching it on. Framed well, it saves manual logging; presented as surveillance, it generates resistance and ends up being switched off.
It has a technical limit worth knowing: GPS accuracy in dense urban areas can drift by tens of metres, so an overly tight perimeter produces false negatives. It should be sized with margin and paired with another signal, such as opening the checklist.
