Traceability
Traceability is the ability to reconstruct what happened with an order, an asset or a product: who intervened, when, where and with what result. It is not about storing data, it is about being able to answer those four questions without depending on anyone memory.
It requires the record to be immutable: if a piece of data can be edited afterwards without leaving a trace, it stops working as proof. A good system does not prevent corrections, but it stores the correction as one more event, with its author and its timestamp.
It is the requirement that appears first in government, healthcare and regulated sectors, and the one that pays for itself fastest: the time spent today assembling a file to answer an audit is expensive people time looking for paperwork.
