Proof of delivery
Proof of delivery is the record that a shipment reached its destination: who received it, when, where and in what condition. In its digital form it brings together signature, photo and location, and stays attached to the order there and then.
It is known by its acronym, POD. Its paper version — the signed delivery note — has two problems: it takes time to get back to the office and it gets lost. While it has not come back, the delivery cannot be invoiced and a complaint cannot be answered.
In operations with many shortage claims, the photo of the delivered package is usually worth more than the signature: it settles the argument about the condition it arrived in, which is where most credit notes go.
