Equipment fleet
The equipment fleet is the set of assets an operation maintains: machines, vehicles, lifts, facilities or equipment installed at the customer premises. Managing it means treating them as a population with a history and not as a list of goods.
The difference from an accounting inventory is that here every unit has a status, a location, an intervention history and an accumulated cost. An inventory tells you how many there are; a managed fleet tells you which ones are about to fail, which are no longer worth repairing and what it really costs to keep each one running.
In technical service operations the fleet is often not your own but the customer. That changes the management: you have to keep the history per unit even though the asset belongs to someone else, because that is what lets you arrive knowing what was done to it last time.
